Turkey 2008 – The Topkapi Palace

Having spent time in Granada and Seville, The Boy and I had certain preconceived ideas about the Topkapi Palace.

We we had forgotten is that the palaces there are medieval, where The Topkapi was in use until 1853, and was decorated as you’d expect from that era.

It was also raining stair rods, so I didn’t get a very good set of photos…although I was rather taken by this drain…

…the remains of the old walls…

…and wouldn’t the view have been great if it hadn’t been raining?

Still…I spotted this nice hound…

…a super mural…

…a magnificent Chinese shield…

…skylights…

…and a monument ‘grave yard’.

I was impressed by the beautiful calligraphy…

…and tiles.

And the pièce de résistance the Sultan’s toilet – Turkish of course!
