France May 2016 – Fréjus

As well as hanging around at the golf club, we paid a visit to Fréjus. The town was created as a seaside resort by the Romans, but also thrived as a medieval town.

There are various Roman bits and pieces, a couple of nice churches and a cathedral. Well worth a visit if you’re in the area.

This sundial outside the cathedral was nice, however…

…the cloister was beautiful.

Its wooden ceiling is covered with thousands of fantastic beasts…

…and scenes from daily life…

painted between 1350 and 1360.

If that wasn’t fabulous enough, the cathedral also has a 5thC baptistery.

Wandering around the town, there’s lots of lovely…

…door furniture…

…ranging…

…from the Romans…

…to odd.

Smurf flavoured ice-cream, there has to be wrong, surely?

We were reminded of this mournful dog…

…when we met this one at lunchtime. She begrudged us every mouthful!

France 2015 – Vézelay

I was lucky enough to have the opportunity to visit this lovely place twice this year.

The first time was with my parents.

I’ve posted lots of photos of the ‘obvious’ sites over the years, so here are some little things that caught my eye. A nice light fitting…

…a very well behaved spaniel (FYI in my experience any man wearing a beret in France is Belgian)…

….some amazing wax fruit…

….a nice old car…

…and a very funny tourist sign.

The Plough at Kelmscott

The plough at Kelmscott is a very nice pub, with good beer and food…
…a cute dog, Thistle (there was another dog called Widget apparently, but we didn’t she him/her)…but best of all…
…a 2nd hand BOOKSHOP!!!

The Star Inn – Folly Hall

Now I DO like a friendly pub with a good pint. As we were in Huddersfield this weekend, we popped into‘ The Star Inn’, which we’d read good things about.
It’s a great place with good beer (see above), plenty to read (including CELEB mags)…
…and a hound. I’m not sure about the diamante collar though!

Canine Busker

I thought this dog was just for show…

…until he started ‘singing’. He also gave a long hard stare at any money that was donated. Probably calculating how much woofy mix it would garner!

Melbourne Hound

There’s lots of public art in Melbourne, I really like this hound.

It looks like I’m not the only one…

…he’s obviously very popular :-).

France 2009 – Milor Encore

Close to where we stay in Burgundy, is a little bar, where we stop for a coffee from time to time.

The owners have a dog called Milor – who is half peke, half ‘Father unknown’. I am always pleased to see him…

…despite the fact he’s not really a very, nice dog (he hates Christopher).

An Afternoon in Marbella

Leaving The Boy to discuss golf courses I had an amble around historic Marbella.

There’s a small Old Town, where you can see the Moorish influence…

…and plenty of ceramics…

…and flowers…

…and the odd funky bit.

Perro.
